Urban studies focus on the growth and functioning of cities and explore the social, economic, and environmental problems of the urban areas and how to create a sustainable and equitable urban living environment through policy and planning solutions. Urban studies use data from multiple sources, employ qualitative and quantitative techniques, and frequently engage with other knowledge domains to research any urban phenomenon. For example, we can study population change within a city by exploring spatial and temporal shifts in socio-economic indicators that can help investigate the impacts of gentrification or any natural hazards on a city.
